Primary oocytes become associated with precursor granulosa cells. Folicular development begins and intensifies after week 16.

Oogenesis: Pachytene stage (chromosomal crossover) occurs. In human oocytes there is a relatively high rate of synaptic errors during this stage, with a high rate of germ cell death as a result.
